Optoma PRO350W, 2800 lumen, XGA, DLP Multimedia Projector Review

Optoma PRO350W, 2800 lumen, XGA, DLP Multimedia Projector
Average Reviews:

long story short, I had it for a month and it broke. By itself I wouldn't consider that an issue - products are sometimes faulty. It happens. But over a week after receiving the RMA'd projector, Optoma now tells me it will be another 3 weeks (they "hope") before they can get the parts to fix it.
It's unfortunate, especially considering that this projector really is awesome - I loved it while I had it. And as I said, I don't consider it a fatal flaw that it broke; that's why we have warranties. But if the company is going to spend a month repairing a nearly brand new projector rather than just replacing it, that's what I consider terrible support.

PalmOne Tungsten T Handheld Review

PalmOne Tungsten T Handheld
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
There are a number of reviews on the 'Net already about this much-anticipated device, and I won't claim to make yet another. Just some interesting observations from a week of ownership:
1) I have found only a single program (Skyscape 5-minute clinical consultant) that does not like OS 5. All others so far work like a charm, including LOTS of medical software.
2) While the OS itself really is not much different, the processor has really revolutionized the Palm handhelds. Example: using Tabers medical dictionary on my m505 was a chore, and looking up a word often took >30 seconds. Now I write in real time and get word lookups in 1-2 seconds.
3) My handwriting recognition (Graffiti) is MARKEDLY improved over the m505.
4) The screen is UNBELIEVABLE! Fantastic, useable under all lighting conditions.
5) The battery life is just fine. I do recharge nightly, but I use it a good 2 hours each day, with the backlight at 50% all the time, and rarely get to below a 70% charge.
6) The sliding design is very sturdy. Also, it just FEELS much better in my hands.
7) The D-pad is a huge improvement, and I think more than makes up for Sony's Jog Dial.
8) Voice recording feature is very nice.
9) Does not come with mp3 software built-in, though word is that Real will be releasing an mp3 player for Palm in the coming weeks that will be available free.
10) Only gripe is that Versamail STILL does not synch e-mail with my Mac...
11) Palm has all but said that this device will be OS6 upgradable, which you can't bank on from the Sony products.
Buy one, you will definitely not be disappointed.

Graphing Calculator Skins Review

Graphing Calculator Skins
Average Reviews:

as advertised, it fits upon the 84 and 89, it even has holes for the grey rubber things on your calculator cover. The quality is fine, but the stickers are not reusable. The designs looks fine when they aren't on your calculator. i own a pink TI-84 SE and I put the purple one on and it looks pretty bad. In fact, almost none of the designs look good with my calculator. So if you own a pink TI-84 SE don't buy this. Also, there are 4 stickers within one pack. Unless you own 4 different Ti-84/84SE/89 there's no point in having the additional 3 skins (especially when they are not reusable and you can't switch the skins once in a while). So basically, this products looks horrible on your calculators and is not very versatile.

Cinemin Swivel Multimedia Pico Projector Review

Cinemin Swivel Multimedia Pico Projector
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
This is really an impressive little gadget. Quite easy to use, just plug it in to charge, turn it on and attach a device. I attached my iPhone and watched videos through iTunes and YouTube quite easily. On a wall, on a ceiling. There really needs to be very little ambient lighting though. But when it's dark, really a pretty sharp picture for the size of the thing and its resolution. And I was especially impressed by the sound given the tiny size of the speaker.
My only complaint is a lack of documentation. The box came with a "quick start guide" which told you very little beyond how to charge it and a couple of other notes and one "sample" configuration. That's it, and there doesn't seem to be any more documentation online. But given how relatively easy to use it is, this is a minor quibble.

Optoma HD803 1080p DLP High Definition Home Theater Projector Review

Optoma HD803 1080p DLP High Definition Home Theater Projector
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
The product itself is a very good and solid entry-point home theater projector.
The problem came with amazon.com...
First, there was no remote neither cables in the box... I thought: "strange". Anyway, as I live in Argentina, after changing a couple of e-mails with Amazon Cust.Svcs. the work-around sounded reasonable and I decided to carry it my country... so I cleared customs here (50% taxes over invoice value).
Still the great surprise was waiting for me... after replacing a not-so-old ViewSonic PJ556 (excellent product btw, but no HDMI), cabling the new HDMI wires, etc... it was time to turn the Optoma on and... the menu was inverted (exactly for ceiling mount) and I thought "it can't be so intelligent..." then I went straight to lamp life... and it was used by 924 hours!!!! Still I'm changing e-mails with Amazon, as their better solution is to send the projector back and place a refund... but you know what... I already spent huge moneys in my country customs, plus shipping this baby from Buenos Aires to Kentucky won't come exactly cheap... So, here we are with my revision. Amazon, sometimes you should try to find a solution "out-of-the-book"... So far so good...
After a while trying many things, this projector ran worst day after day, so taking advantage that I had to go back to US, I sent an e-mail to Amazon Customer Care explaining. They response was prompt and they invite me to send the item back to the return center even after 30 days of purchase, making a refund of 80% of the money spent. By June 1st. I shipped the item back and by June 3rd the refund was processed on my CC.
I publicly want to recognize this absolutely outstanding commercial behavior from AMAZON. GS.

It was great for 6 months... but please do not... I repeat... do not buy this television. This is a discontinued item. I brought this TV last November 2005 only had it for 6 months. And now it's been nothing but one big headache. This thing started making strange wining noises. And couldn't get any picture. At first they thought it was the lamp that needed replacing. Not!
Still waiting to find out what's wrong with this thing. I know I probably got a defective television. But I wish I would had brought my 61 panasonic TV instead of this thing. Oh well, 2553 down the drain.

Featuring a revolutionary, V-shaped design, the 56-inch Sharp 56DR650 DLP HDTV makes for a stylish home theater centerpiece. But it also produces stunning video and audio playback thanks to the Texas Instruments advanced DLP (digital light projection) chip and Faroudja video engine. You'll enjoy 480p, 720p and 1080i high-definition viewing right out of the box thanks to the built-in digital ATSC tuner, which pulls HD signals right from the airwaves. You can also connect the set to an optional receiver or cable/satellite set-top box using either the HDMI or component connections. An analog NTSC tuner receives standard-definition (SD) programming. You can also use this set to view your PC, with the VGA input.
The 56DR650 features Faroudja's Emmy award-winning DCDi (Directional Correlational Deinterlacing) technology, which helps to eliminate the jagginess found in non-HD video content. FaroudjaÕs unique DCDi algorithm identifies all the moving edges in a scene and adjusts the angle of interpolation at each pixel so that the interpolation always follows the edge instead of crossing it, eliminating staircasing or jagged edge artifacts.
This set has a 135-watt lamp, 1280 x 720-pixel resolution, true 16:9 aspect ratio, and a great 1200:1 contrast ratio. (The higher the contrast ratio, the greater a TV's ability to display subtle color details and not get washed out by ambient room light.) The SmoothPicture technology virtually eliminates pixelization that is noticeable on some other types of TVs. The 3:2 pulldown cinema video processing feature detects and compensates film--which is shot at 24 frames per second (fps) compared with video's 30 fps rate--to video for a smooth theater-like experience at home. Other features include picture-in-picture (PIP)
It produces a total of 30 watts of power from the two built-in speakers (15 watts per channel), and the integrated BBE sound enhancement circuitry enhances the mid to high frequencies to create clear crisp dialogue from the TV's internal speakers. It produces virtual surround sound through its two speakers, and can be used as a center channel speaker in a multi-channel surround sound set-up from your home theater receiver. It includes the following line-up of video and audio connection options:
Composite audio/video (RCA): 3
S-Video: 3
Component video: 2
HDMI audio/video: 1
PC VGA: 1
RF: 2 (1 analog, 1 digital)
Digital audio: 1 optical, 1 coaxial
Center channel input: 1

Tech Talk A DLP (or digital light projection) system uses an optical semiconductor called the Digital Micromirror Device, or DMD, which functions as an extremely precise light switch. The DMD chip contains an array of more than a million hinged, microscopic mirrors. By switching these mirrors on and off up to several thousand times per second, a DLP projection system can translate a digital video or graphic source into a projected image with maximum fidelity.

BenQ MP730 DLP Projector Review

BenQ MP730 DLP Projector
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
It gives you all the things you need for basic and some pro operations.
First of all its Widescreen HD picture quality that gives you your typical 720p picture.
Second the inputs. HDMI, composite, component, VGA, s-video... you can pretty much connect anything to it and still have some extra room.
Third, very little or nothing screen effect. Every projector out there will have the screen effect, no matter what people might say, but this one has close to nothing. That is good.
There are some cons, as always:
The lumens that you get are very low, it would have been nice a brighter picture. Settings can give you a little more, but that is it. Make sure you have it on a dark room and you will be just fine.
The speakers are a joke. Buy yourself anything and you can have better sound, even headphones.
It is heavy, this is not one of those huge cinema projectors, but it sure was aiming for that. You can mount it on the ceiling with ANY mount out there and it will be OK, just remember that if you are planning on getting a projector that you want to move constantly, this might not be a good option. if you plan on mounting it on the ceiling and leaving it there, your on the right track, but if you do presentations on different places, forget it, get yourself a smaller one.
Again I say, if you are looking for a beginners projector, this is the one for you, it has great quality for video games, watching TV, movies and even surfing the web. It is not 1080p, but you wont notice the difference when you watch a movie.

Functions with the TI-83 Plus & TI-83 Plus SE Review

Functions with the TI-83 Plus and TI-83 Plus SE
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I bought this book to explain in simple language how to use the functions of the TI-30 I bought. The book gives you equations to plug in, but absolutely no explanation as to why the equations are set up as they are. It is totally useless for a person to buy this and try to learn on their own without the the aid of a teacher to explain the construction of the algebraic expression. After reading for 4 hours I was disappointed and will look for another book. It does show some neat graphs that the owner's manual doesn't get into, but if don't know how to create the equation it's a useless tool.

The properties of functions should be explored and discovered rather than taught and drilled. Students can explore various types of functions on the TI-83 Plus in cooperative groups or on their own as you facilitate their learning. Keying sequences guide them through the variety of menus on the TI-83 Plus without the need to page through the calculator manual. Detailed solutions at the back of the book help students over obstacles to their learning and the operation of the menus and submenus are absorbed with minimal effort as the mathematics is learned. Deeper investigations are included to challenge the more capable student, and historical vignettes are introduced to add a human dimension to the mathematical excursions. This new publication has been expanded to include a more detailed treatment of linear and quadratic functions found in most state and provincial guidelines. The topics include finding zeros, domain and range, extrema, and singularities of polynomial and rational functions. Properties of the trigonometric, exponential and logarithmic functions are also explored. Topics also include the study of limits and asymptotic behavior, polar coordinates, parametric equations and conics.

FiiO E1 Portable Headphone Amplifier, Sound Booster With Volume Control - For Apple iPod, Nano, Classic, Video, iTouch And iPhone 3G/4 Review

FiiO E1 Portable Headphone Amplifier, Sound Booster With Volume Control - For Apple iPod, Nano, Classic, Video, iTouch And iPhone 3G/4

I used to rock a HeadRoom BitHead which has broken and gone unreplaced for a few years now. I'm using Klipsch S4i's on my Iphone 3GS, and I felt the earbuds needed more juice to round out the potential.
The E1 fit the bill nicely. It combines LOD with enough amplification to make the sound significantly warmer and with deeper soundstage. It's hard for me to explain further, because I'm an amateur audiophile. But I know what sounds more natural and the E1 delivers a significantly more pleasurable listening experience. It feels like there's more space and depth to the music than just through the line out on the Iphone.
Someday, when I have more money and arm strength, I'll get another BitHead. Till then, I'll use the E1 and watch the battery life drain a bit faster than usual (obviously, the E1 draws power from the Iphone to operate its circuitry, so expect faster battery depletion).
Other users noted the cord is too long; I don't mind so far, I just keep it looped up as it was on arrival. Another noted design flaw are the easily depressed navigation buttons, but that hasn't been a problem for me.
$20 + small size + better audio quality = SWEEEEET.

Sharp DT-200 Home Theater TV Projector Review

Sharp DT-200 Home Theater TV Projector
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I sold my DT-200 today after 2 years of trouble free service. This was my third home theater projector and by far the best I have ever owned. The picture is excellent for this price point. Black levels and lumens leave a little to be desired. However, one must keep in mind that this is not a Runco or Sim2 either. I really believe SHARP is offering the most bang for the buck of any electronics manufacturer in todays market. That's why I'm sticking with them...I've upgraded to the DT-300.

Click Here to see more reviews about: Sharp DT-200 Home Theater TV Projector

Ideal for consumers who are new to home theater products, the Sharp DT-200 home theater projector is portable, compact, and loaded with high-quality features, chief among them being DLP technology from Texas Instruments. The unit weighs just over seven and a half pounds so you can easily move it from, say, the living room to the recreation room, as use requires. The DT-200 delivers brilliant clarity through its extremely high contrast ratio of 1,200:1 and high brightness of 600 ANSI Lumens.
A dedicated DVI input with HDCP (high-bandwidth digital content protection) grants compatibility with cutting-edge equipment such as HDTV set-top boxes, and a built-in line doubler enhances the quality from standard interlaced video signals (such as those from cable, VCRs, non-progressive-scanning DVD players, etc.). Freeing you to place the projector just about anywhere, 2D keystone correction minimizes picture distortion when the projector is not perfectly parallel to the screen or wall. The projector measures a mere 14.4 by 12.8 by 5.8 inches, so it will easily fit on a shelf, cabinet, or small table. Its included 1.2x, short-throw zoom lens (with lens shift) provides clarity and excellent depth of field--even in small rooms or outdoors--while the projector's whisper-quiet fan operation eliminates the possibility of distractions from fan noise during use.
The DT-200 is available with an optional table stand and pop-up screen, or can be mounted with an optional ceiling-mount adapter for an instant home-theater set-up right out of the box.

HP 10B Financial Calculator Review

HP 10B Financial Calculator
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I have used (and own) many of the available financial calculators on the market. I "recommend" the HP-10B to my university finance students, both graduate and undergraduate.
The HP 10B is a directly positioned competitor to the TI-BA-II+, but HP's entry is superior. The keys feel more solid, the machine itself "seems" better made. Having worn out more than one of each, my experience has been that the HP has more staying power. And, the TI-BA-II+ often requires more keystrokes to accomplish the same tasks (i.e., NPV calculations). ...
The HP 10B has a well written manual, including examples on using the function. HP has the manual available on-line on their website for the inevitable time that the user needs it and has lost the original.
While there are cheaper financial calculators, it seems that this particular level is the minimum I would recommend to professionals or students. Less expensive versions, while saving a few dollars, miss important features. As a general rule of thumb, if the calculator can perform the "IRR" function, as this can, it will be able to handle pretty much any calculation into which the finance student, professonal, or banker will run. Lesser machines do not have this function.
Ironically, even larger fancier calculators, such as the venerable HP-12C, are in my estimation inferior as well. The 12C uses RPN logic which, while saving even more keystrokes, is simply foreign to most students. More importantly, some functions, such as the Time Value of Money functions, on the 12C require interpretation. On the 12C, for example, solving for the number of periods in an annuity, the value gets rounded UP to the next integer.
Strongly recommended as the best value in inexpensive financial calculators.

Acer X1230PS DLP Projector Review

Acer X1230PS DLP Projector
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I just bought this projector. I was a bit skeptical about it, because of its low price. Believe me I searched a lot of brands. I even downloaded their manuals to read every single specification. Well, at the end of all this research. I decided to buy this one.

Now that it is already installed on my video room. I'm pretty impressed by the quality and the crystal clear image. You have to have your room almost dark, to really appreciate its great image. My screen is over 165" diagonal. I have a 52" plasma, 42" lcd and 72" HD tvprojector. Now these ones I won't be using as much as my 165" plus screen with its HD resolution.
I'm watching 720p and 1080p HD movies. This you have to see it to believe it. My brother has a view sonic projector. He paid for that one around 900 dollars. I paid for mine not even close to 600 dollars. When we compared the image, he was pretty disappointed with his of course.
You have to buy a 25' rgb and power cable if you want to connect it on your ceiling though. Other than that. You're set to go.
Sometimes people say that expensive is better than cheap. In this case, I swear to god. This one is way better than an expensive one.
The other projectors tell you that you will have a full HD image and so. The big difference is that you have to pay more than 1,000 bucks to get that. If you want to save a few hundreds, get this one. You will not regret it!! I guarantee it!!

PalmOne Zire 71 Handheld Review

PalmOne Zire 71 Handheld
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I Fried (Power Surge) my handspring Visor over the weekend and went to BestBuy with my "Service Protection Plan" They gave me full credit towards a new device ($...). I had to upgrade. My choice was between the Clie and the Zire ($... extra). The Zire won hands down. It's speed is fantastic, those of you who have older 33MHz chips will notice. The Colors are rich and bright and the interface is easy to use. Graffiti2 takes a little getting use to but it is easily mastered. The camera is just a neat addition, I mean it's not designed for professional photography. Thats what a 5megapixel digital camera is for. But it's great for taking little memory shots and having pictures of your kids available. And the device itself looks good too.
I do agree 16megs is a bit chincey esp when only 13megs is available for application usage. My biggest gripe is the carrying case. The Elastic is so tight that it sets off the joystick every time I insert it. I miss the hard plastic cover from my handspring. Palm could have given better protection than that. That's why it gets only 4 stars.
Anyone looking for an up grade from their old PDA would do well to steer in the direction PALM has taken. Top of the line device, though you may want to get a hard shell case to protect it.
