Texas Instruments 89TVSC/CBX/1L1/A TI89TITANIUM Viewscreen Calc Review

Texas Instruments 89TVSC/CBX/1L1/A TI89TITANIUM Viewscreen Calc
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
The TI89 Titanium is fantastic all purpose programmable calculator and has proven to be extremely useful in both my daily work and in college courses. The 3D graphing and statistics apps have been great. It is also worth mentioning that this is the most advanced calculator you are allowed to use most standardized tests, such as AP Calculus, AP Statistics, AP Physics, AP Chemistry, PSAT/NMSQT, SAT I, SAT II, and Math IC & IIC exams.
I ordered this one direct from Amazon because the other sellers were out of stock. I couldn't figure out why Amazon was charging so much more for the same model#, but when it showed up it was obvious. Turns out Amazon (direct) is selling the teacher model, so be sure to order the TI89 Titanium that is $50 less if you don't want the teacher model.

This is an amazing calculator at a very cheap price. It allows you to calculate in fractions and also allows you to type in your equations just like on a graphing calculator. The TI 32 also has an attractive case and battery and solar power. It has dual line display which allows you to see the problem and the answer at the same time. There are no problems with it at all and it is extremely fast. It also has a memory so you can scroll back and look at your previous calculations. It is such an amazing calculator for such a low price.

Let's face it, Firewire is a moving target and an iffy communications channel at best. I sometimes think there is a little gnome down inside Firewire cards and drivers that just looks for opportunities to cause problems.
I chose this card because it uses the TI chipset, which has the reputation of being more versatile than NEC, VIA or others. I inserted it in an older homebuilt PC and it ran perfectly on Win XP without any burps or hiccups. I have used it with both a camera and a software-defined radio without any difficulties whatsoever. It comes with both standard-length and a low profile brackets, easily changeable with two small screws.
Note that this is a PCI-Express card and will only run in an Express lot. Syba sells regular PCI cards if that is what you need.
Recommended.

TEXTI30XIIS - TI-30XIIS Scientific Calculator Review

TEXTI30XIIS - TI-30XIIS Scientific Calculator

this calculator is horrible. it takes a second for the keys to register, which really slowed me down, this can also cause mistakes, which healthee said, so if you don't go slow, you'll mess up. Also, it takes a lot longer than a better calculator to perform an operation. It doesn't have as many functions as a calculator for $2.50 more (link at end). The ONLY good thing about this is that it's light, but thats because it doesn't have all the good in it. Buy TI-30XS Multiview Calculator instead, its a much better calculator. DO NOT BUY ThIS.

Texas Instruments TI-Nspire Math and Science Handheld Graphing Calculator Review

Texas Instruments TI-Nspire Math and Science Handheld Graphing Calculator
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
This calculator is a great uprgrade from the Ti-84 and Ti-89 series. It is more that worth the price. Not many people have them only because the Ti-84 are recommended by schools. They are recommended by schools because that is what their teachers and instructors know how to use and therefore are familiar with the operations. If you go with the Ti-Nspire, which I highly recommend, buy the Ti-Nspire for Dummies at the same time because you won't find many people in which to ask for advice. Within a week you will be light years ahead of all of the Ti-89 and Ti-84 users if you go through the dummies book.

Casio FX-115ES Advanced Scientific Calculator with 2-Line Natural Textbook Display Review

Casio FX-115ES Advanced Scientific Calculator with 2-Line Natural Textbook Display
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I failed the FE last semester. Yes, probably one of 5 who failed out of like thousands who did fine. Needless to say I'm ashamed. I was a last semester senior in civil with a completely overwhelming 18 hour schedule which I should have known was suicide. Plus many other personal life complications and interruptions. All that business led me to completely put off all studying for the FE thinking it would be a sinch. Plus, friends had said it wasn't that bad at all. Lesson learned. Study for this test! I will not allow myself to fail this test again. Unless you're a genius, do not put off the studying like I did. I'm a 3.5 gpa student.
I'm registered to take this test again this October. I'm now a grad student and my schedule is actually much more realistic. I have been studying with a partner 2-3 times a week, for several hours at a time. We help push each other when we we're stuck. We both have the giant FE review manual by lindebergh. Also, go to the NCEES site, print out the Reference Manual available in pdf at kinkos and have it bound there. It is vital to get to know your way around it.
CALCULATOR!!! I actually owned this Casio fx 115ES for my first time taking the FE. Though I had spent a little time getting to know it before the test, I have realized only recently that it was not near enough! I have vowed to know this thing inside and out and in the process I have realized that this may be the best calculator ever created.
I have used a TI-86 for years. I always loved the TI setup so I thought about getting one of TI approved models, but the fx-115ES was rated a lot higher and had better reviews than the other calculators permitted on the exam. I got it. It frustrated me for a while because it seemed so unlike the format of TIs. I thought I was comfortable enough with it for the test, but obviously I wasn't. I feel I'm a notoriously bad timed test taker. You should know absolutely everything about the ref manual you can and know every short cut on your calculator as possible. Each 4 hour segment moves way fast!
This semester I have actually been using the fx-115ES during classes and for all my homework. Discovering shortcuts that I had no idea existed. The display is amazing. I like seeing a fraction like how I would write it on paper and this calculator allows you to do that. In fact, you can put fractions in the numerator and denominator of a fraction! You can even put fractions in the next fractions! Does that make sense? It helps me immensely because I have realized I notoriously type things in wrong in calculators. If I get an answer that isn't one of the choices, I can press the navigation key and go back and look at everything I typed in and easily fix it. It is amazing. I have done that over and over.
You can enter constants (Avogadro's number, gravity, etc etc) and can convert units by using the little cheat sheet that is already glued on the inside of the sliding case. Figuring out how to quickly use that (which is not hard at all) is also an amazing help.
There is a genius little button that converts mixed numbers to decimal form. I know that it's in most calculators but it seems better on this one. There is also a button to convert to engineering (i.e. 10^-4). At my level of schooling, integrating and derivation are very quick and easy, but holy crap, I can do it even faster on this calculator! There are so many great little features in this calculator that you'll find yourself wondering why other calculators even exist. Because I don't need to do a lot of graphing anymore, I actually have switched so this is basically my sole calculator. I recommend everyone do this. I am beyond confident that I will slaughter the FE this time around.
And just to prove to you one more thing. I researched the hell out of the available TI calculators this summer. I got the one that I thought was the best and offered the most functions. TI-36Solar. Don't even bother. It is built way cheaper than the fx-115ES. It's only solar and I found that it had a hard time turning on and being seen in the middle of the day!!!! This is a huge issue as FE exam rooms can be very dim! The Casio is double powered and contrast is easily controlled! The buttons on the TI are inferiorly organized to the Casio.
LAST NOTE! DO NOT get the fx-115MS or ANY other model of the fx-115. My study friend after seeing me gush over this ES finally decided to get one. He accidently got the MS and to his horror, the display is only one line and with less functions. I cannot believe I have typed all this up. I think I'm just hoping to help people to not make the same mistakes I did.

Syba SD-EXPC34-2F TI Chipset 1394a (400Mbps) 2x Ports, 34mm ExpressCard Review

Syba SD-EXPC34-2F TI Chipset 1394a (400Mbps) 2x Ports, 34mm ExpressCard
Average Reviews:

I purchased this card ,along with a new laptop, to use with an audio interface since it has a TI chipset. The card installed smoothly on both Windows 7 and XP and streams 26 channels of audio perfectly via an M-Audio Profire2626 to my DAW, with low latency and absolutely no stutters or dropouts. The plastic and aluminum construction is a little on the flimsy side and flexes a lot so I exercise caution when moving the laptop or firewire cable around while it's plugged in. Overall, it does exactly what I need it to do for less money than other comparable cards.

Texas Instruments Inc. TI-84 Plus Silver Edition Pink Graphing Calculator (Extra Purple faceplate) Review

Texas Instruments Inc. TI-84 Plus Silver Edition Pink Graphing Calculator (Extra Purple faceplate)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
This model of the TI-84 Plus Silver Edition is pink. The color may help ward off theft, but at the very least it is definitely not easy to misplace the calculator.
From the TI site you can find comparison charts, and for high school here are the main additions that the Silver Edition has over the regular TI-84 Plus:
It is for Precalculus, Chemistry, and Geometry. This has more memory and a few other bells and whistles, but the deciding factor may be if you are in one or all three of those classes. This also comes with downloadable SAT and ACT test questions to help a person prepare for those.
For the price, if you're considering this being used at least one year in high school and 4+ years of college, it's about $20-30 a year for one of the most helpful tools a student needs. Two thumbs up!

Texas Instruments TI-85 Advanced Graphing Scientific Calculator Review

Texas Instruments TI-85 Advanced Graphing Scientific Calculator
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
With a large number of features and a huge range of functions, the TI-85 is a graphing tool that is well worth its cost. It is fully programmable, using a BASIC-like programming language. Texas Instruments discontinued this line of calculators however, and though they may have had their own reasons, I know of at least two flaws with this particular calculator. The first is that there are some bugs in its programming, such as its inability to convert negative temperatures. The second and much more serious problem is that the screen is not reliable. Roughly half of these calculators have one or more lines or columns of pixels fail after a few years of use. As long as you aren't paying retail price, however, the $$$it might cost for a used TI-85 is more than worth it. Enjoy.

I lost my first calculator ,so was trying to just buy a decently used calculator as a replacement. The calculator worked fine up until like 2 weeks before the SATs ,my screen became completely unresponsive and was black. Just my luck the warranty was out too, luckily I'm a techie guy so I knew how to fix this. But if I had to buy a calculator all over again, I would just have bought a refurbished or new calculator. Less malfunctions

Texas Instruments TI503SV Calculator Review

Texas Instruments TI503SV Calculator
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I bought this calculator to keep in my desk drawer for simple problems of the four basic mathematical functions. I also have a TI-30Xa scientific calculator in there, but it is much more cumbersome to use, particularly when using memory functions. This is an extremely basic calculator, has very large numbers for ease of reading, and is very inexpensive, making it perfect for general use around the house, like balancing the checkbook. It actually can take square roots and do percentage problems, so basic math students could rely on it for elementary math work.
The one annoyance I had with the calculator concerns the instructions: you have to download them from the web in a PDF file; none are included in the package. (Not that you really need them for anything.) Although TI didn't include instructions, they did include an enormous and unwieldy, multi-lingual product registration sheet in the package in an apparent attempt to get customer names into their database (no doubt for marketing reasons.) I can't imagine someone paying postage to register a calculator that they paid five dollars for.
Despite the above nitpicky critique, I think this is a great little calculator, and I recommend it highly to anyone for their basic mathematical computations.
