TI30XA Solar School Edition Review

TI30XA Solar School Edition
Average Reviews:

The TI30XA solar calculator is a great calculator for grade school children. While not as powerful as a graphing calculator (nor nearly as expensive) this calculator will take kids through elementary school and will work for years after. I've owned one for fifteen years now and it still works.
One thing to note about this, this is a "special edition" calculator and because of that, it's fraction key has been deactivated. This hampers the product a little bit but it's still a quality product that will do well for any child learning basic math.

Texas Instruments BA35 Solar Calculator Review

Texas Instruments BA35 Solar Calculator

Anyone who purchases a BA-35, uses it and then tries out the TI BA II Plus for about 12 bucks more is going to suffer a bad case of buyer's remorse. The 35 is woefully underpowered in financial calculation capability compared to the next higher level of financial calculators. The reason I have one is that is is one of the required calculators for the actuarial exams (for reasons I have yet to figure out).
My overall recommendation is -- if you want a financial calculator that has actual capability, spring for either the HP12c or the TI BA II Plus.

Texas Instruments Full Keyboard for TI Graphing Calculators Review

Texas Instruments Full Keyboard for TI Graphing Calculators
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
This keyboard is a great addition to my TI 83S+. I already have a laptop, but this is much easier, lighter and quicker to use in class. And I have the TI 83 with me anyway for the class I originally bought it for. Now, with the light weight keyboard I walk into other meetings/classes and in the space of two-three seconds it is up and "running" vs. my laptop friends who are just turning there laptop on or still waiting on it to complete loading.I was worried about the size of the font in the screen on the TI 83. No need to worry, it is very easy to see and is actually a delight. As for a note taker, I disagree with one of the other raters. The NoteFolio has menus and all and as a note-taker it seems sophisticated. The TI 83 has lots of room for memory and you can read it later or load it into your computer at home/apt. to print. The keyboard is full size and unlike other compacts I have used (my palm pilot GoType keyboard is much smaller). When I use this keyboard (for the TI 83) it is easy just as on my desktop at home. In fact I just type away. I recommend this to all. Real good way to avoid purchasing a laptop to take to class. I think I could even use this in the library to take notes! Again, one of its great advantages is it's light weight, ease in carrying, and use issue. I don't think you will regret this purchase.

I find the TI BAII Plus (Professional) to be a valuable tool for anyone in the financial industry. It is very specialized so do not expect to work out your trigonometry problems with it or anything scientific for that matter. Looks good on my desk with its stainless steel outer covering.
It takes some time to learn how to use the various functions though. Need to read the manual before using it. It is a CFA compliant calculator if you are doing the exams.
A very good buy.

Texas Instruments TI-92 Plus Graphing Calculator Review

Texas Instruments TI-92 Plus Graphing Calculator
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Being a math and computer science major, I thought a more powerful calculator would probably come in handy. Simply put, this calculator can perform about any mathmatical function that I've wanted to use it for. Furthermore, when I find a function missing that I need, this calculator has sufficient memory and an easy-to-learn programming system to implement your own functions or programs. The TI 92 can perform mundane calculations that would be helpful in high school classes, but it is really intended to be used for the more complex ideas that upper level college courses make a student work with. It should be noted as well that some professors will not allow the use of this calculator on exams and the SAT and some other standardized tests definitely will not allow it. In my personal experience, I took a Numerical Methods math course which actually referred to my calculator several times and presented me with code on how to implement the complex equations in the TI 92. Furthermore, my favorite feature of this calculator is the "Pretty Print" function. When this feature is on, the calculator will print most math structures just as they would look in a math book. (derivatives and integrals are a simple example of this feature.) One negative aspect should be pointed out as well, because of the sheer quantity of features on this calculator, it can be difficult to learn how to use it quickly. The instruction manual is huge, but it does feature many helpful examples if one takes the time to read through it. Finally, the addition of the "QWERTY" keyboard is very useful and most people will probably wonder how they ever used a graphing calculator without such a keyboard. In conclusion, this calculator is powerful, but it can be overwhelming at first. It handles simple problems and some of the hardest mathmatical functions possible with ease. Therefore, in my opinion, this calculator is a perfect fit for a math major in college or a person in a mathmatically related profession. Others, would probably be better off to save the extra money and get the TI 89.

With more power than most of us had in our PCs less than 20 years ago, the TI-92 Plus graphing calculator is the machine of choice for students and engineers both at the desk and on the go. It comes with over 500 KB of memory and software for working through algebra and other mathematic problems quickly and easily.
With the TI Graph Link accessory (not included), you can connect to computers and even download software upgrades. Solve linear and nonlinear equations, use the Pretty Print feature to see equations in textbook format, and work with 3-D surface graphs in real time. The QWERTY keyboard is rugged and easy to use, the 128 x 240 screen is easy on the eyes, and the calculator comes with a durable shell to protect its face when you're traveling or in the field. Additional accessories can turn the TI-92 into a mobile data-collection station, but it's just as useful at home.

Students beware: Some professors and teachers discourage, or even ban the use of calculators like the TI-92 in their classes, so make sure it's OK before you buy. Once you're set, the manual is clear and straightforward--you'll be programming in no time. Ultrageeks will love the assembly-language option, but the rest of us can get by just fine with the regular interface. The old timers might still cling to their slide rules, but anyone who needs a calculator for school or work can see why the Texas Instruments TI-92 is so popular: Its versatility, power, and portability give you the number-crunching power of a computer no matter where you are. --Rob Lightner

Texas Instruments TI-85 Graphing Calculator Review

Texas Instruments TI-85 Graphing Calculator

This calculator got me through two years of advanced high school math, two and a half years of college calculus, and general use almost every day at work as an engineer/scientist. It is my calculator of choice for EVERYTHING from simple arithmetic to graphing complex equations, to solving integrals and differential equations. The battery life has been phenomenal -- I maybe change them out once a year, if that. I have used it almost every day for 15 straight years. Contains some very powerful features and functions for almost any math need you can throw at it. You can purchase a used TI-85 for not much money these days as well. True, it may not be as easy to use as the TI-83, but I would never give up my TI-85 for anything.

Texas Instruments TI-84 Plus Silver Edition Graphing Calculator (Pink)
Average Reviews:

I absolutely love this calculator. I used to have the Ti83 silver but then I decided to upgrade. This calculator has more space and well, it's pink. Not really a math person, everytime I walk into the math class room and take it out, it just brightens my mood. This calculator is easy to use, and very practical. You can use it for your highschool and college classes, and also for standardized test like the SATS. More memory is helpful because you can store more custom made applications. The silver edition lets you change faceplates as well so if you ever get tired of the pink, just pop it off and switch the plate. I love this calculator, and i guarentee you will be happy with your product.

Texas Instruments TI34II Calculator Review

Texas Instruments TI34II Calculator
Average Reviews:

The TI-34II is a good calculator that is easy to use.
Unfortunately, it has one fatal flaw. While it allows numbers to be entered in scientific notation, it doesn't have a feature to show the result of a calulation in scientific notation. With a 10 digit display, it can be hard to figure out if 100000000 is 1 billion or 100 million. Lack of comma's to group digits into 3's also hurts. I ended up buying a CASIO FX-115MS, which does have the scientific notation and comma's.
If the TI had the comma's and scientific notation, it would beat the CASIO hands down for ease of use, and also contruction. I also like the fact that it remembers prior calculations even after auto-powering down. The CASIO forgets after any power down.

Texas Instruments TI-89 Advanced Graphing Calculator Review

Texas Instruments TI-89 Advanced Graphing Calculator
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
The TI-89 is an excellent calculator. It has an absolutley HUGEfeature set, and is so advanced that it can basically do most math for you. My favorite features are the CAS (computer algebra system), which can solve a lot of algebraic equations for you, and the factoring function (I dont have to waste time factoring on paper anymore! whoohoo!). My old ti-83+ seems like a slide rule compared to this thing, but the 89 is still quite easy to use. In addition, not only is this calculator great for math, its great for games! There's a multitude of mathematical programs and games that you can find for free online. . . The only downside to this calculator is that the rich feature set can actually be a problem. A lot of students that use this calculator rely on it too much, and some of them barely understand any of the math that they are supposed to be learning. It is probably for this reason that it and its brother the TI-92 (difference between the TI-89 and TI-92 is the 92's qwerty keyboard, useless for a calculator in my opinion, and the 89 is smaller) are banned in some colleges, and on some tests, like the ACT's. If you've got the discipline not to rely too much on this fine piece of equipment (if you're a student), I highly recommend this calculator. But be warned, keep your old calculator around for tests that you can't use your 89 on, and NEVER rely to much on it.

Texas Instruments TI83 Graphing Calculator Review

Texas Instruments TI83 Graphing Calculator
Average Reviews:

Why would I want a TI 83 you may ask? What about the 89? It's a higher model, and has more buttons! Yes, that's exactly it, it has more buttons, and way to many features you won't use. I have a Ti 83+ (More memory than the origional, but same everything else) and it is great! It has built in Financial Apps, which is a nice addition (and helpful!) compared to the 82 (which it is also compatible with!). But the 89? Even the 85? They take greater than calculus students to even need/use those functions, and they are a much harder to learn calculator. The Calculus teacher at our school says that the 83 will get you all through calculus and most likely beyond college. My calculator, which is really easy to learn, came in handy the first day in Geometry. We had to figure an area of a wierd shape and we only had the co-ordinates, i punched them in, and POW, found the area. If you do get this calculator, a TI-Graph Link is a must, this allows you to download software and updates from TIs website, some software could almost be considered cheating, while others can be games for fun. Unless you want to spend $200 for a TI-92+ (not even allowed by most teachers, it's so powerful), this is THE calculator for you!

Perhaps if we'd had this calculator in high school we would have done much better in trigonometry. The Texas Instruments TI-83 is an ideal unit for any math student, combining powerful features for graphing and statistical analysis.
The LCD screen displays 16 characters over 8 lines. Though the TI-83's keyboard layout might seem daunting to those who've never laid eyes on a graphic calculator before, the helpful, if intimidatingly thick, manual will get you up and running quickly.
The TI-83 includes function, parametric and polar, and sequence plot modes. You can store, graph, and analyze up to 10 functions, 6 parametric and polar functions, and 3 sequence functions. The TI-83's Draw operations allow you to annotate graphs. Along with the advanced math and science features, the TI-83 also includes such financial functions as cash flow, amortization, and time value of money.
The included input-output cable lets you link the TI-83 with another TI-83 or a TI-82 for data sharing, and the optional TI-Graph Link software lets you transfer files to a PC.

Texas Instruments TI-86 Graphing Calculator Review

Texas Instruments TI-86 Graphing Calculator
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I had used a TI-83 for Precalc, but really needed something a little more powerful for Calculus, so I bought an 86. One of my friends has an 89, but many tests that allow graphing calculators still don't allow a TI-89 because they have "algebraic manipulation" capabilities, plus the 86 is cheaper, so I went with that. I have not been disappointed. It has a much cleaner interface than the 83, and the 83's only real advantage, a strong financial and statistics package, can be downloaded to the 86 as an addon. Be warned though if you do that, the Graph Link cable (to the computer) is not cheap. It's a great calculator with a lot of good features. Those looking for more features can easily customize it by programming it, a pretty straightforward process.

Designed with power users in mind, the TI-86 graphing calculator has all the power and functionality of the popular TI-85 but with significant enhancements aimed at students of college mathematics, engineering, and science. The TI-86 includes a function evaluation table, deep entry recall, seven different graph styles with multiple line and shading options, and slope and direction fields for differential equations. In addition, the TI-86 boasts 96 KB of user-available memory--three times more than the TI-85. There's also a new function evaluation table which shows numeric output for function, polar, parametric, and differential equation modes.
The TI-86 runs with programs designed for the TI-85 and includes all the same matrix features, but with a new matrix editor that allows the user to view and edit matrices in two dimensions. You can also view multiple lists and attach formulas to those lists for automatic computations. A new aspect of the TI-86 is the ability to customize product functionality with machine language programs downloaded from TI's Web site. Besides the strong graphing abilities, the TI-86 also has powerful calculus features like integration, derivatives, minimums, maximums, roots, and arcs. It also supports Z80 assembly language programming.
The 64 x 128 high-contrast pixel screen displays eight lines of 21 characters each plus two levels of display menus. With the TI-86, you can link to other TI-86s and TI-85s via the input/output port, and to CBLs, CBRs, and computers. --Dana Van Nest

Texas Instruments TI1795SV Solar Calculator Review

Texas Instruments TI1795SV Solar Calculator
Average Reviews:

I'm SO happy to see they still make this model calculator! I've had mine for about ten years now and use it daily and it finally died today. I've used it so much I wore the paint off of the point key, and pulled it out tonight to check something and the plus key (finally) stopped working. This is an awesome and very tough little calculator, the display is nice and big and very easy to read in even low light (and I have poor vision), it's lightweight and I can easily throw it in the drawer without worrying about it getting damaged, but it's not so light you can't pound away on it without it slipping around (and it has two little rubber feet to keep it in place). And it's completely solar, no batteries to worry with. I just ordered another one tonight, and I'm so glad I don't have to get used to a different one (I key very fast and it keeps up with me), here's hoping my new one lasts another ten years :-)
Update - I just got this in the mail today and FYI the style number is the same but the design has changed (see photo comparisons above, the Amazon stock photo is incorrect). The new one is bigger and rounder, about a half inch wider and longer. It's also thicker and the key pad is 'ergonomically' rounded, which makes it a longer reach for short fingers. The buttons are a little bigger and there is an extra row of three at the top (rate, tax+, tax-) that I don't need. So it will take a little getting used to, I wish it was still the smaller size, but the display is still big and easy to read and the keys are quick.
